Following the mass shooting in El Paso, TX that claimed the lives of 23 innocent people, 145 CEO’s endorsed a letter to the US Senate urging the legislative body to take action on gun safety.

Seeing that long list of companies with names such as Airbnb, Uber, and Lyft, was a huge reminder that BIG problems can be solved by innovative organizations. Thus, The Waterproof Project was born.

The Waterproof Project is a collection of the brightest minds coming together in an unprecedented way, with the purpose of spawning innovation and solving one of our biggest problems: gun violence. Most large scale public crises are a result of the system being “broken." However, in this case, the system doesn’t even exist. So we’re going to build it!

TRADITIONAL APPROACH
The traditional approach to addressing gun violence is lobbying and protest.That approach is one dimensional. We have 30 years worth of gun data that proves this method is ineffective. Therefore continuing on this route would be the proverbial definition of insanity.

For the past 30 years, we've taken the exact same approach to gun violence in America. As a result, we have gotten the exact the same results: Over 30,000 gun related deaths annually.

As Americans, we live in an environment of over 300 million people in possession of over 300 million guns. However, instead of treating the problem as an "environmental" issue we've turned it into a political issue.

Instead of putting our heads together to create a solution, in true political fashion we have created nothing but a debate. Debates force people to pick sides, and as long as the two sides stay separated, we will NEVER solve the problem.

Other gun violence organizations take on the approach of "joining the political fight." At The Waterproof Project, we are not looking to join the fight. Our goal is to create a solution. A solution that brings the two fighting sides together, solves our gun violence problem, and subsequently ENDS the fight.
